Aston Martin DB2/4

History of Aston Martin DB2/4 and introduction to icardealer.co.uk

Aston Martin is a name which instantly conjures up images of creative enthusiasm, control and sophistication. From its first appearance in an overseas Grand Prix 1922 to the James Bond films starting with Goldfinger in 1964 the Aston Martin range was building a reputation for excellence all over the world. This reputation has not diminished and a long timeline of noteworthy, historical significance backs up all Aston Martins claims to be the very best in classic, and now, contemporary motor cars.

In 1914 Aston Martin was born after a Hill Climb in Aston and 7 years later Aston Martin presented their first competition car. In 1926 Aston Martin Motors Ltd was formed and their first entry in the Le Mans 24 hour race followed in 1928. It was 20 years later that two Aston Martin DB2 prototypes were entered in Le Mans and in 1951  DB2s came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 3 litre class of that race.

Aston Martin DB2/4In 1953 Aston Martin broke more records by introducing the first 2 + 2 seater in the DB2/4 and in 1955 the DB2/4 mark 2 went into production. The DB2/4 is, in our opinion, the finest example of a classic Aston Martin. 1977 saw the birth of the Vantage and 1980 hailed the arrival of the Lagonda. The strength of Aston martin grew and grew and in 1987 Ford Motor Company acquired a 75% shareholding in the business. In 1993 the V8 version of the Vantage took to the road and 1 year later Ford acquired the remaining 25% of the shares in Aston Martin at the same time as producing the DB7. 2001 introduced the V12 Vanquish and one year later Aston Martin renewed its relationship with legendary coach-builders Zagato to introduce the DB7 Zagato.
In 2003, 7000 DB7s had been built and by 2006 Aston Martin announced that 30,000 cars had been through the production line at the Head Office Gaydon factory.

Casino Royal, another Bond Classic, launched the DBS in 2006 the same year the V8 Vantage Roadster was launched at the LA Motor show.

In March 2007 the Aston Martin appeal was too much for the consortium of investment houses Dar and Adeem who bought the Company. Today's CEO, Dr Ulrich Bez is adamant that Aston Martin are as enthusiastic about their cars today as they have always been and will continue to make sports cars with a distinctive and individual character for many years to come.
